Wild game meat can be used in any recipe from any culture as a healthy, organic, low fat, high-protein substitute for virtually any kind of store-bought meat. As an example, ground venison is a fantastic alternative to the not-so-healthy ground beef or pork that’s a major ingredient of many Italian pasta dishes. In this blog, I’ll be sharing a nutritious, delicious wild game pasta recipe which only calls for a few simple ingredients and can be prepared in a crock pot for trouble free cooking and a robust, savory flavor. Let’s get started!
Venison Ragu – Serving size: 4
• 1 lb ground venison
• 3-4 carrots
• 3-4 celery stalks
• 1 large onion
• 2 tablespoons minced garlic
• 1 teaspoon each of salt and pepper
• 2 cans of tomato paste
• Pasta of your choice
• Parmesan cheese
Step #1 -Harvest some wild game.
Step #2 -Finley chop celery, carrots, and onion.
Step #3 -Add 2 tablespoons of minced garlic, 1 teaspoon each of salt and pepper, and mix thoroughly.
Step #4 -Place 1lb of ground wild game meat in slow cooker, add 2 cans of tomato paste, and mix together thoroughly with other ingredients.
Step #5 –Cook on low temperature for 6 to 8 hours, or, if in a hurry, cook on high for 2 to 4 hours. Stir occasionally while cooking.
Step #6 –Serve over a bed of pasta of your choice, topped with freshly grated parmesan cheese, and enjoy!
