The Best Nature & Wildlife Photography Lenses
There are lots of lenses out there to choose from for your DSLR or mirrorless camera. One could spend weeks upon weeks researching and reading reviews and still barely even scratch the surface! To help you speed up the process of selecting the best lens for your camera, specifically for nature and wildlife photography purposes, I’ve taken the liberty of rounding up the highest reviewed and most recommend lenses for Nikon, Canon, Sony, Fuji, and Olympus cameras…which are my top picks, and which I have available here.
When it comes to cameras, and especially lenses, I hold fast to the “do more with less” philosophy. As a nature and wildlife photographer who ventures far off the beaten path into some very unforgiving environments, I have limited space in my pack and I don’t necessarily want to fill it with lots of heavy, delicate, expensive glass. I bring along as few lenses as possible that can do everything from close-up macro work, wide-angle landscape shots, and zoomed-in, fast action wildlife photos. I look for lenses that are versatile, dependable, and practical.
The lenses that I feature below are ones that I have used myself, that my professional photographer associates devoutly use, or, that I’ve seen in action and have heard lots of rave reviews about from my guide clients while out in the field on my Alaska photography adventures. Obviously, these lenses are brand exclusive, however, I will have some great third-party lenses featured here in the future as well, which can be used on a variety of cameras of different makes and models.
While some lenses are specifically designed for DSLR cameras and others for mirrorless, both Nikon and Canon have adapters that enable one to use their popular DSLR lenses on their mirrorless bodies. I have these adapters featured below.
